Total Joint Orthopedics Announces First 100 Hip Replacements with the Platform® Acetabular System

SALT LAKE CITY, UT [November 18, 2022] Total Joint Orthopedics is pleased to announce the completion of its first 100 procedures using the Platform® Acetabular System with excellent results. The Platform® Acetabular System received 510(k) market clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on September 23, 2022, signaling the next step for TJO to offer differentiated solutions for total hip arthroplasty.

"We are thrilled with the addition of the Platform® Cup to our hip portfolio, offering surgeons a state-of-the-art solution designed to enhance patient outcomes. Allowing for future compatibility with Aurum® Technology, the Platform® Cup strengthens our commitment to eliminating Cobalt Chrome from total joint replacement," said Andrew Morris, TJO's VP of Strategy.

The Platform® Acetabular System comprises the best design features from the most successful acetabular constructs and offers the potential for exceptional patient outcomes and survivorship.1 The Platform® Cup's Ti-Coat® has an excellent scratch fit for initial fixation and simplified acetabular preparation, allowing for smooth insert placement, with visual and tactile verification of the final seating. Offering a unique insert for each cup size, the Platform® Acetabular System addresses critical concerns about stability, wear, fixation, and the maximum range of motion.

Michael J. Morris, MD of Joint Implant Surgeons in New Albany, Ohio, recently implanted the 100th Platform® Cup. "The cup embodies TJO's surgeon- and patient-centric mission. The preparation, instrumentation, ease of insertion of both shell and liner, coupled with the initial fixation and robust bone ingrowth of the Ti-Coat®, offers a reproducible and reliable component choice for hip arthroplasty," said Dr. Morris.
